POWER SEAT SYSTEM
DESCRIPTION
Power seats can be adjusted in 8 different direc-
tions:
• Up or down
• Forward or back
• Tilt forward or rearward
• Recliner up or down
OPERATION
Two single armature permanent magnet reversible
motors are coupled through cables to worm gear box
assemblies. They are located in the seat tracks and
upper supports. The two single gear motor assem-
blies attach to the seat tracks provide the various
seat movements.
The electrical circuit is protected by a 20 amp cir-
cuit breaker located on the Junction Block and a 40
amp fuse in the Power Distribution Center.
POSITION SENSING POWER SEAT
POTENTIOMETERS
DESCRIPTION
A potentiometer is mounted to each seat motor to
provide a sense voltage to the MHSMM that will
indicate where the actual seat position is.
OPERATION
This sense voltage is derived from a 5-volt source
provided by the module to the potentiometer. The
MHSMM reads this sense voltage and stores it if
required.
POWER SEAT SWITCH
DESCRIPTION
The seat switch assembly is mounted outboard in
the seat cushion side cover.
OPERATION
Activating any seat switch will move the seat in
the corresponding direction. The MHSMM will drive
a maximum of two motors at a time in a given direc-
tion. If conflicting directions are requested, the prior-
ities for responses are as follows:
• Seat Track Rearward
• Seat Front Down

DIAGNOSIS AND TESTING
DIAGNOSTIC PROCEDURE
Before any testing is attempted the battery should
be carefully charged and all connections and termi-
nals cleaned and tightened to insure proper continu-
ity and grounds.
With dome lamp on, apply switch in direction of
failure. If dome lamp dims the seat motor is trying to
work indicating mechanical jamming. If dome lamp
does not dim, then proceed with the following electri-
cal tests.
CIRCUIT BREAKER
Find correct circuit breaker on fuse block. Pull out
slightly but be sure that circuit breaker terminals
still contact terminals in fuse block. Connect ground
wire of voltmeter to a good ground. With probe of
voltmeter positive wire, check both terminals of cir-
cuit breaker for battery voltage. If only one terminal
checks at battery voltage, circuit breaker is defective
and must be replaced. If neither terminal shows bat-
tery voltage, check for open or shorted circuit to cir-
cuit breaker.
