Stacking In a Ring Topology
For example:
All of the stacked switches are identical.
You want to stack as many DXS-3326GSR switches as possible. The DXS-3326GSR switches do not have a 10G uplink,
so their individual Token Cost is 2.
To calculate the maximum number of DXS-3326GSR switches in the ring stack, use the following formula:
For this example, a maximum of 16 DXS-3326GSR switches (where all of these switches have a 10G uplink) can be ring
stacked according to the previous calculations, but we must remember that there is a maximum limitation of 12 switches,
so the actual maximum number of DXS-3326GSR switches that can be stacked together in the ring topology is twelve.
Remembering that our token cost cannot exceed 32, we realize that our current switch stack has a total token cost of 24 (12
* 2) and we still have a remainder of 8 left in our token cost. To maximize the usage of our switch stack, we decide to add
the optional module to the rear of the Switch that has an individual token cost of 2. Since we have 8 left in our token cost,
we are capable of adding four optional modules to any of the DXS-3326GSRs in the switch stack. (4 * 2 = 8) (8 + 24 ≤ 32)
To determine how many DXS-3326GSR switches (each with a 10G uplink port) could be stacked in a ring stack, you need
to redo the calculation above using a Token Cost of 4 for each DXS-3326GSR switch.
To calculate the maximum number of DXS-3326GSR switches (with a 10G uplink port) in the ring stack, use the following
formula:
