The last speed limitation set remains stored. The
last speed limitation stored is deleted when you
switch off the engine.
Variable SPEEDTRONIC is deactivated automat-
ically if:
on vehicles with manual transmission, you
R
shift to a higher gear and as a result the
engine speed is too low
you depress the accelerator pedal beyond the
R
pressure point (kickdown with automatic
transmission). The speed at which you are
currently driving must not deviate from the
stored speed limitation by more than
20 km/h
on vehicles with the Euro 5 engine, ECO Start
R
automatically switches off the engine

Permanent SPEEDTRONIC
General notes

Permanent SPEEDTRONIC is only available
in certain countries.
The speed can be permanently set, e.g. for driv-
ing on winter tyres, to a value between
100 km/h and 160 km/h for:
vehicles without steering wheel buttons – at a
R
qualified specialist workshop
vehicles with steering wheel buttons – by
R
using the on-board computer when the vehi-

cle is stationary (
page 159)
Permanent SPEEDTRONIC remains active even
if variable SPEEDTRONIC is deactivated.
If there is a malfunction in the ESP
i
system, permanent SPEEDTRONIC is deacti-
vated for the duration of the malfunction.
You cannot then exceed the set speed limitation
even if you depress the accelerator pedal
beyond the pressure point (kickdown for auto-
matic transmissions).
If you accelerate the vehicle using the acceler-

ator pedal, the

is shown shortly before the set speed limitation
is reached.
Permanent SPEEDTRONIC controls the speed
and the vehicle stops accelerating. You should
then ease off the accelerator pedal accordingly.
The speed limitation may be exceeded on down-
hill gradients even if variable SPEEDTRONIC is
activated.
If the vehicle exceeds the set speed limitation,

warning tone also sounds three times.
