AdBlue

General notes
To function properly, BlueTEC exhaust gas after-
treatment must be operated with the reducing
®
agent AdBlue
.
Operating the vehicle with AdBlue
ing thereof is required for compliance with emis-
sions laws and regulations.
®
AdBlue
is a non-flammable, non-toxic, colour-
less and odourless, water-soluble liquid.
If you open an AdBlue
of ammonia vapour may be released.
Ammonia vapours have a pungent smell and pri-
marily cause irritation of the:
skin
R
mucous membranes
R
eyes
R
You may experience a burning sensation in your
eyes, nose and throat, as well as coughing and
watering of the eyes.
Do not inhale ammonia vapours. Only fill the
®
AdBlue
tank in well-ventilated areas.
®
and the fill-
®
tank cap, small amounts
®
AdBlue
must not come into contact with your
skin, eyes or clothing.
®
If you get AdBlue
in your eyes or on your
R
skin, rinse thoroughly without delay using
clear water.
®
If AdBlue
has been swallowed, rinse your
R
mouth out immediately with plenty of clean
water, and drink plenty of water.
Change immediately out of clothing contami-
R
®
nated with AdBlue
If an allergic reaction occurs, consult a doctor
R
immediately.
®
Keep AdBlue
away from children.
Further information about BlueTEC exhaust gas
aftertreatment and about AdBlue
be obtained from any Mercedes-Benz Service
Centre.
Low ambient temperatures
AdBlue freezes at a temperature of approx-
imately -11 †. The vehicle is equipped with an
®
AdBlue
preheating system at the factory. Win-
ter operation can thus be guaranteed even at
temperatures below -11 †.
®
i
If you add AdBlue
-11 † it is possible that the level is not shown
correctly due to the frozen AdBlue
Drive for at least 20 minutes (heating phase in
the tank activated) and then stop the vehicle
for at least 30 seconds. The level is then
shown correctly.
