When opening and closing the electric sliding
door, make sure that nobody is within the
operating range of the sliding door. If some-
one becomes trapped, press the button again
to stop the sliding door.

The electric sliding door of your vehicle may be
equipped with an electrical step. When opening
and closing the electric sliding door, observe the
instructions relating to the electrical step

( page 71).
You must reset the electric sliding door if there
has been a malfunction or an interruption in the
Y
voltage supply (
Operation and obstacle detection
Your vehicle can be equipped with an electric
sliding door on the left and/or right-hand side.
The electric sliding door is operated using the
following:
the sliding door buttons on the centre console
R
the sliding door button on the door sill (B-pil-
R
lar)
the door handle (inside or outside)
R
the key
R
If the electric sliding door is obstructed while
opening, it moves a few centimetres in the oppo-
site direction and stops.
If the sliding door is obstructed during the clos-
ing procedure, it opens fully again.
If the electric drive of the sliding door is in dan-
ger of overheating, e.g. due to frequent opening
and closing within a short period, the sliding
door opens fully. The sliding door is then locked
in place by the play-protection feature. The slid-
ing door is operational again after approximately
30 seconds.
If there has been a malfunction or if the battery
has been disconnected, you can use the release
catch to disconnect the sliding door from the
electric motor. Then you can open or close the
Y
door manually (
page 70).

On vehicles with a partition, the button is loca-
ted on the partition next to the doorway at the
level of the inside door handle.
You can only open the sliding door with the but-
ton in the door sill if the child-proof lock is not
activated.

To open: briefly press the upper Å sliding
door button on the centre console or button
= in the doorway.
The indicator lamps in the upper Å sliding
door button and in button = flash.

To close: briefly press the lower Æ sliding
door button on the centre console or button
= on the door sill.
The indicator lamps in the upper Å sliding
door button and in button = flash. The sliding
door closes and a warning tone sounds.
