Step 12. Turn on the peripheral devices and the server.

Removing a memory module

Use this information to remove a memory module.
To remove a dual inline memory module (DIMM), complete the following steps:
Step 1.
Read the safety information that begins on "Safety" on page v and "Installation guidelines" on
page 297.
Step 2.
Turn off the server and peripheral devices and disconnect all power cords.
Step 3.
Remove the top cover (see "Removing the top cover" on page 149).
Step 4.
Remove the air baffle (see "Removing the air baffle" on page 152).
Step 5.
Carefully open the retaining clips on each end of the DIMM connector and remove the DIMM.
Attention: To avoid breaking the retaining clips or damaging the DIMM connectors, open and
close the clips gently.

Step 6.
If you are instructed to return the DIMM, follow all packaging instructions, and use any packaging
materials for shipping that are supplied to you.

Installing a memory module

The following notes describe the types of DIMMs that the server supports and other information that you
must consider when you install DIMMs.
• When you install or remove DIMMs, the server configuration information changes. When you restart the
server, the system displays a message that indicates that the memory configuration has changed.
• The server supports only industry-standard double-data-rate 4 (DDR4), 2400 MHz, PC4-19200 registered
or load deduction, synchronous dynamic random-access memory (SDRAM) dual inline memory modules
(DIMMs) with error correcting code (ECC). See http://www.lenovo.com/ serverproven/ for a list of
