M A I N B E A R I N G
Inspect the bearing inserts for unusual wear or
damage.
Reinstall the upper crankcase's main bearing inserts,
then carefully lower the crankshaft in place.
Wipe all oil from the bearing inserts and journals.
Put a piece of plastigauge on each journal.
N O T E
Do not put the plastigauge over the oil hole
in the main bearing journal of the crankshaft.
Install the main bearings on the correct journals
in the lower crankcase, then assemble and tighten
the bolts evenly in 2-3 steps in the sequence shown.
T O R O U E V A L U E S :
6 m m b o l t : 1 0 - 1 4 N . m ( 1 . 0 - 1 . 4 k g - m , 7 - 1 0 f t - t b )
9 mm boft: 30-34 N.m (3.0-3.4 kg-m,22-25ft-lbl

D o n o t r o t a t e t h e c r a n k s h a f t d u r i n g i n s p e c -
t i o n .
Remove the lower crankcase and measure the com-
pressed plastigauge on each journal.
