CAUTION
' Quick-charging should only be done in an
emergency ; slow'charging h prefened.
, Route the breather tube as shown on the
battew caution label.
After installing the battery, coat the terminals with
clean grease.

Make sure the battery is fully charged before
performing this test.
S t a r t t h e e n g i n e a n d w a r m i t u p t o o p e r a t i n g
temperature.
Remove the frame right side cover and seat.
Connect the voltmeter between the battery terminals
a s s n o w n .
Start the engine and allow it to idle.
C h e c k t h e v o l t a g e b y r a i s i n g t h e e n g i n e s p e e d
g r a d u a l l y . T h e v o l t a g e s h o u l d b e m a i n t a i n e d w i t h i n t h e
regulated voltage.
R E G U L A T E D V O L T A G E : 1 4 . 0 - 1 5 . 0 V

o Open or short circuit (black wire of the regulator/
rectifier).
o L o o s e o r p o o r l y c o n n e c t e d r e g u l a t o r , / r e c t i f i e r
coupler.
o Faulty regulator,/rectifier.
lf voltage does not increase when raising the engine
speed, the likelihood is:
r Open or short circuit between the alternator and
reg u lator,/rectif ier.
o Loose or poorly connected alternator or regulator/
rectifier couplers.
o Open circuit in wire harness (red,/white or green
wires).
. Faulty alternator or regulator/rectifier.
