7.3.4 Defective Memory Disconnection Function

This server is equipped with the defective memory (RAM module) disconnection function.
This function disconnects the memory (one DIMM) judged to be defective (error) during Power On Self
Test (POST) to start the server. When POST is executed, if the memory capacity is discovered to be
smaller than the capacity of the memory installed, there is a possibility of memory defect.
You can check the slot location whose memory is defective during POST or from the system event log.
If the defective memory is discovered, replace it, and then restart the server.
■ Replacement Procedures of a Defective Memory Module
1
Refer to the system event log and check the defective memory slot position.
"9.3 System Event Log" (pg.245)
2
Replace the defective memory module with a new memory module according
to the procedures described in "7.3.3 How to Install/Remove Memory Modules"
( pg.183).
3
Startup BIOS Setup Utility.
"8.2.1 Starting and Exiting the BIOS Setup Utility" (pg.205)
4
Select [Memory Status submenu] from [Server menu], and confirm that the replaced
memory item shows "Enabled".
If it shows "Failed", change it to "Enabled"
"
Memory Status Submenu" (pg.224)
184
If "Enabled" is not set, the system recognizes it as failed and starts up the server with memory
always segregated. By setting "Enabled", the defective memory status is released at the sub-
sequent server startup, and a new memory becomes available.
