Modifying IPMS Parameters
Limiting IGMP Multicast Groups
By default there is no limit on the number of IGMP groups that can be learned on a port/vlan instance. A
maximum group limit can be set on a port, VLAN or on a global level to limit the number of IGMP groups
that can be learned. Once the configured limit is reached, a configurable action decides whether the new
IGMP report is dropped or replaces an existing IGMP membership.
The maximum group limit can be applied globally, per VLAN, or per port. Port settings override VLAN
settings, which override global settings.
If the maximum number of groups is reached an action can be configured to either drop the new member-
ship request or replace an existing group membership as show below.
Setting the IGMP Group Limit
To set the IGMP global group limit and drop any requests above the limit, use the
group
command as shown below:
-> ip multicast max-group 25 action drop
To set the IGMP group limit for a VLAN and replace an existing session use the
group
command as shown below:
-> ip multicast vlan 10 max-group 25 action replace
To set the IGMP group limit for a port and drop any requests above the limit, use the
max-group
command as shown below:
-> ip multicast port 1/1 max-group 25 action drop
