How To....

Replace the Actuator Assembly or Inside Actuator Shroud

Tools Required: Two Jaw Puller, #2 Phillips Screwdriver, External
Snap Ring Pliers, 17mm Wrenches (2)
Estimated Repair Time: 30 minutes
1. Raise the stride length to the maximum.
2. Turn the cross trainer power switch OFF.
3. Unplug the line cord from the wall outlet.
4. Remove the outer shroud on the stride adjuster assembly (see
How To Replace the Outside Actuator Shroud on the previous
page).
5. Remove the four screws attaching the telescoping shroud as-
sembly to the upper casting, two from each side of the shroud.
Rotate linkage until the pedal is all the way forward. Pull the
moving shroud up and forward along the rear of the pedal lever
tube. There is no need to separate the two halves of the shroud.
See Figure 1.
6. Remove the idler link bolt from the bottom of the adjuster as-
sembly and the bolt that attaches the rear of the pedal lever to
the upper casting.
7. Cut the cable ties securing the idler link cable and unplug the
two connectors. Pull the cable out through the entrance hole in
the shroud.
8. Remove the snap ring on the end of the crank arm shaft.
9. Slide the adjuster assembly off the crank arm. If it will not come
off by hand, use a two jaw puller to remove it as shown in Figure
2.
10. Wipe off the crank arm shaft to remove any residue. Apply anti-
seize lubricant to the shaft as shown in Figure 3.
11. Make sure wave washer is in place as shown in Figure 3. Replace
the inside actuator shroud at this time if needed by removing the
three Phillips screws that hold it in place. Reassemble adjuster
assembly onto the crank arm and install the snap ring
12. Reassemble pedal lever, idler link, cables and shrouds. (See
How to Replace the Idler with Cable Assembly on pages 32-33)
for images showing proper cable routing from the idler into the
Actuator Assembly.)
