How To....

Replace the Eddy Current Brake Mechanism

Tools Required: Phillips Screwdriver, 17mm Socket Wrench
Estimated Repair Time: 30 minutes
1. Turn the cross trainer power switch OFF.
2. Unplug the line cord from the wall outlet.
3. Remove the rear shrouds (see How To Replace the Rear Shrouds on page 31).
4. Remove the drive belt (see How To Replace the Drive Belt on page 44).
5. Remove the brake cable from the slide block in the eddy current brake.
6. Measure the distance from
the hex nut to the top of the
J-hook (tension bolt). This
distance will be duplicated
when applying tension to the
drive belt later.
7. Relieve tension on the drive
belt by turning the hex nut
on the J-hook and loosening
the Idler bracket mounting
bolts.
8. Remove the idler bracket
and J-hook.
9. Remove the nut and washer
from the left side of the eddy
current brake mechanism
threaded shaft.
10. Loosen the bolts that secure
the mounting plates to each
other.
11. Loosen the bolts that secure
the mounting plates to the
frame.
12. Pull the left side mounting
plate away from the eddy
current brake enough to
allow the drive belt to be
removed from the eddy cur-
rent brake pulley.
13. Remove the bracket mount-
ing bolts (loosened in Steps
10 and 11) from the frame.
