System limits
The system may be impaired or may not function
in the following instances, for example:
in snow, rain, fog or heavy spray
R
if there is dirt on the radar sensors or they
R
are covered
if there is interference from radar sources or
R
strong radar reflections, for example in multi-
storey car parks
in traffic situations where frequent speed
R
changes are required, e.g. in heavy traffic or
on winding roads or off-road
on roads with steep downhill or uphill gradi‐
R
ents
on winding roads
R
The system cannot detect stationary objects
unless these were previously detected as moving.
In addition, on slippery or slick roads, braking or
accelerating can cause one or several of the drive
wheels to lose traction and the vehicle can then
skid.
Do not use Active Distance Assist DISTRONIC in
these situations.
& WARNING Risk of accident from acceler‐
ation or braking by Active Distance Assist
DISTRONIC
Active Distance Assist DISTRONIC may accel‐
erate or brake in the following cases, for
example:
If the vehicle pulls away using Active Dis‐
R
tance Assist DISTRONIC.
If the stored speed is called up and is con‐
R
siderably faster or slower than the cur‐
rently driven speed.
If Active Distance Assist DISTRONIC no
R
longer detects a vehicle in front or does
not react to relevant objects.
Always carefully observe the traffic con‐
#
ditions and be ready to brake at all
times.
Take into account the traffic situation
#
before calling up the stored speed.
& WARNING Risk of accident due to insuf‐
ficient deceleration by Active Distance
Assist DISTRONIC
Active Distance Assist DISTRONIC brakes
your vehicle with up to 50% of the possible
deceleration. If this deceleration is not suffi‐
cient, Active Distance Assist DISTRONIC
alerts you with a visual and acoustic warning.
Adjust your speed and maintain a suita‐
#
ble distance from the vehicle in front.
Brake the vehicle yourself and/or take
#
evasive action.
& WARNING Risk of accident if detection
function of Active Distance Assist
DISTRONIC is impaired
Active Distance Assist DISTRONIC does not
react or has a limited reaction:
when driving on a different lane or when
R
changing lanes
to pedestrians, animals, bicycles or sta‐
R
tionary vehicles, or unexpected obstacles
to complex traffic conditions
R
to oncoming vehicles and crossing traffic
R
As a result, Active Distance Assist DISTRONIC
may neither give warnings nor intervene in
such situations.
Always observe the traffic conditions
#
carefully and react accordingly.
Active Distance Assist DISTRONIC may not detect
narrow vehicles driving in front, e.g. motorcycles
or vehicles not travelling in line with your vehicle.
If the following requirements for activation are no
longer fulfilled or the system is malfunctioning,
Active Distance Assist DISTRONIC is automati‐
cally deactivated. If the vehicle is stationary or is
moving very slowly during automatic deactiva‐
tion, the transmission automatically shifts to park
position j.
Operating Active Distance Assist DISTRONIC
Requirements:
The vehicle has been started. It may take up
R
to two minutes of driving before Active Dis‐
tance Assist DISTRONIC is ready for use.
The parking brake has been released.
R
®
ESP
is activated and is not intervening.
R
Active Parking Assist is not active.
