• Although it is not directly related to the exhaust
system, the engine cover also helps to protect
the cargo box and operators from engine heat.
It is backed with heat insulating material.

• If the vehicle is, or may at some time be oper-
ated on unimproved land, the spark arrestor
should not be removed except for cleaning or
immediate replacement.
• If the vehicle is or may at some time be stored in
the presence of small wildlife, the spark arrestor
should not be removed except for cleaning or
immediate replacement.
• The spark arrestor may be removed for cleaning
or replacement using a 1/4" wrench.

7c. There are essentially two things that can
go wrong with an exhaust system:
leakage or blockage.
• Leakage, whether it is internal (baffles) or exter-
nal, will result in a louder exhaust note. If the
exhaust gets louder, identify and correct the
source of the leak. External leaks in particular
can over-heat or burn other components. They
should be repaired before additional damage is
done.
• External leaks usually leave black traces on the
exhaust system. If an external leak is sus-
pected, remove the heat shields to make a thor-
ough visual inspection. Inspect the complete
system, beginning with the exhaust manifold and
it's connection to the cylinder head.
