Solution
If you have more than one external storage device,
1.
Make sure that all the devices are turned on, and that the
power outlets they are plugged into have power.
2.
Type cnfg and the number of the slot in which the device
is connected.
If the device does not appear in the configuration display
on the screen, turn off all devices connected to the system
unit and then turn off the system unit. Then see the
instructions for installing the device in Chapter 8,
''Installing and Removing External Storage Devices'',
on page 8-3. For a discussion of configuration displays,
see Chapter 11, ''cnfg'', on page 11-11.
3.
If the device is listed properly in the configuration display
and it is an external device, make sure the SCSI and
power cables are connected to all the devices in the chain
and to the system unit. The SCSI cables between devices
should be 18-inch Digital cables.
Make sure a terminator is firmly attached to the second
connector on the last device in the chain.
4.
Make sure that the total length of all internal and
external SCSI cable does not exceed 19 feet 8 inches
(6 meters). In Chapter 8, see Table 8-1, on page 8-5,
shows the length of every SCSI cable. Remember that
cable length calculations must include the length of the
cable in each device box and in the base system.
5.
Turn on the system unit and the devices.
If the problem is not fixed, look in the manuals for the
devices and in the installation guide for your workstation
software.
