If Something Goes Wrong
Troubleshooting
Turn on the monitor and set the brightness and contrast to at
least two-thirds of the maximum.
Refer to the monitor manual for details.
4
Verify that the floppy disk drive is empty, then turn on the
power.
5
Check that the server starts and that the POWER indicator
lights green. If the POWER indicator does not light, refer to
"Power indicator does not light" on page 111 in this chapter.
Once the server has started, the Power On Self Test (POST)
determines whether the problem is due to a defect of the system
baseboard, keyboard, or incorrect settings.
If the server stops without completing the POST, this indicates that
a fatal system error has occurred. Write down the data shown on
the screen and note the beep patterns (output beep code), which
will help a service engineer to diagnose the problem.
The POST checks the server's storage devices. Make sure their
indicators light properly.
Check that the floppy disk drive's In-use light operates
properly. If it does not, refer to "FDD indicator does not light"
on page 112 in this chapter.
Check that the activity light installed for each installed hard
disk drive operates properly. If it does not, refer to "HDD
indicator does not light" on page 112 in this chapter.
HINT: To check the HDD SCSI activity lights, you must
remove the server's side panel.
When the server boots, the operating system menu appears. If it is
not displayed, refer to "Initial startup" on page 110 in this chapter.
