Key Descriptions

Most of the keys are self-explanatory; letter keys produce letters, number keys pro-
duce numbers. Table 3-1 describes the special functions performed by the 35-key
and 56-key keyboards.

Table 3 - 1 Special Keys
Description
Changes letter keys to uppercase, and number keys to
punctuation marks and symbols.
(56-key keyboard) Shifts the keyboard between uppercase
and lowercase letters.
(35-key keyboard) Shifts the keyboard to produce alphabetic
characters. Uppercase only.
Function key. Invokes special keyboard functions.
Control key. Generates control characters.
Function keys. The use of these keys is determined by the
application program.
Usually pressed after typing data or a command.
Displays a help message.
Turns on the backlight.
Displays a menu.
Sends data to the host.
Depending on the application, completely or partially
escapes from an application level or screen, or clears data
entered in a field.
Following Func, darkens the display (increases contrast).
Following Func, lightens the display (reduces contrast).
Answers NO to a question.
Answers YES to a question.
