Scanning

In addition to keyboard data entry, the Series 3300 supports the use of barcode
scanning devices as an alternate input device. The application program must im-
plement routines for barcode scanning before scanning can actually be performed.
Scanners supported by the 3300 include wand scanners and laser scanners. An op-
tion on the 3300 is an integrated laser scanner, which is a permanently installed
option.
Caution
Only scanners designated as Intrinsically Safe with the PDT 3300 may be used
in potentially hazardous environments.

Scanning Tips

Bar code labels that do not meet established industry specifications may not scan
successfully. These labels may include:
• Smudged labels
• Very dark or very light labels
• Highly reflective surfaces or coatings
• Poor color contrast.
The following may also cause unsuccessful scans:
• Moving the contact wand scanner too quickly
• Moving the contact wand scanner too slowly
• Moving the contact wand scanner at an uneven speed
• Moving the scanner diagonally across the bar code.
