Carriage
The 4247 Model V03 carriage is driven by a dc servo motor. An optical sensor mounted to the print head carriage
travels along a linear grid encoder strip. The sensor detects marks along the encoder strip, and returns pulses to
the main logic board that are used to control the speed and position of the print head. On all earlier models the
carriage is driven by a stepper motor without encoder feedback. The 4247 Model V03 carriage belt is changed
from earlier models, and the belt tension adjustment procedure is set to a higher tension.
Covers
The 4247 Model V03 covers are metal and plastic where all plastic covers were found on earlier models.
Flash memory download and printer microcode file
The 4247 Model V03 flash download code is a single file that supports all printer attachment configurations. The
download program , which can be executed from a DOS command window from any computer, sends code to the
printer through the parallel port. Flash download code is available on the IBM First database and is also available
on diskette for third party or self-maintenance providers.
Logic and power supply
The 4247 Model V03 logic board and power supply are in function unique to this printer model while maintaining a
form and fit that is common with earlier models.
Operator panel
The 4247 Model V03 operator panel is basically the same operator panel found on earlier models, and includes
drive circuits for the Ready Attention (LED) , which has been added to the top cover. The new 4247 Model V03
operator panel can be installed on earlier models, but, earlier model operator panels can not be installed on the
4247 Model V03 because they can not drive the Ready Attention LED .
