5-6 The Print Heads Stopped Moving

If the print-head carriage stops over the platen, take
action immediately to prevent the heads from dry-
ing out.

What to Do First

If the message [MOTOR ERROR CAP PRINT HEADS] ap-
pears, first eliminate the cause of the error, then press
. When the heads have moved to the standby posi-
tion (inside the right side cover), switch off the sub power.
If the carriage doesn't move, switch the sub power off, then
back on again. (If the media is jammed, then remove the
media as well.) If the heads still do not move, try switching
off the main power, then switching on first the main power,
and then the sub power.

If the Heads Still Do Not Move

If the heads still do not move, carry out the following emer-
gency response measure, then contact your authorized
Roland DG Corp. dealer.
1. Switch off the main power and detach the right side
cover.
2. Open the front cover.
3. Gently move the cap unit by hand to the position
shown in the figure.
4. Gently move the print heads by hand as far as the
standby position.

5. Insert the head-unit tool into the hole on the bottom
of the machine and turn gently. The print heads de-
scend.
6. Make the guides at the edges of the print heads line
up with the printing heads at the edges of the cap
unit. Turn the tool further to bring the heads near the
cap unit.
7. When the heads make contact with the cap unit, turn
the tool three more turns.
Make sure the print heads are capped tightly.
