VMware ESX Server and DS3500
Chapter 22.
Storage Configuration
The IBM DS3500 Storage System is designed to deliver reliable performance for mixed
applications including transaction and sequential workloads. These workloads include
applications that are typical of a virtual infrastructure including e-mail, database, Web server,
file server, data warehouse, and backup profiles.
The IBM DS3500 Storage System offers shared storage that enable all of VMware's
advanced functionality, for example, VMware Distributed Resource Scheduler (DRS),
VMware vCenter Site Recovery Manager (SRM), and VMware High Availability (HA).
In this chapter, we outline the process for installing the VMware ESX Server and the
configuration setting that is necessary. All examples are based on Fibre Channel. Detailed
information about ISCSI you will find here:

Since we only focus on the actual implementation part in this chapter, refer to VMware
Implementation with IBM System Storage DS4000/DS5000, REDP-4609 for detailed
information.
