The corona wire is dirty.
The imaging unit is worn out.

symptom occurs more frequently in the
winter or in a dry climate.

Solution
Clean the corona wire. See page 4-22.
If several cleaning attempts do not show
improvement, check the test print for the
imaging unit's system count: if it is near or
past 40,000, you probably need to replace
the imaging unit, which includes a new
corona wire.
