Serial Communications
Recommended converter - Patton Electronics Model 2089
The 2089f is manufactured by Patton Electronics - US +1 (301) 975-1000 and
is a self-powered unit, i.e. no external transformer is needed and, can be used
in 2 or 4 wire mode. It also has switchable 120 termination built in and does
not require any soldering for connections. This converter has been tested with
all the permutations discussed in this manual, although other converters from
different manufacturers should work equally well.
Use 2 wire multi-point (hence 'multidrop') mode for driving an FDS-366T
RS485 system. The switch settings shown below should be used to connect
either a PC to a network of FDS-366Ts or other RS232 compatible BSS
products, such as the FDS-355 or Minidrives. Switch S1-1 sets the termination
resistance and should be set ot "ON" when used with either a PC or, if the
converter is connected to the last unit in a network. All other units using
converters in a network should have the termination switched "OFF".
The converter should be connected to a 9 pin D type connector, to plug into
the FDS-366T RS485 port, with the XMT+ connected to pin 4 and XMT- to pin
5.
