The PDC-100 is a Windows-based rackmount PC which ships pre-configured from BSS Audio, running specialized server software. An IDX 100 system is customized remotely by an intuitive, wizard-based software application named ‘IDX100 Designer’. In an IDX 100 system, the PC which runs IDX100 Designer is referred to as the ‘client’ PC. The client PC can be the PDC-100 itself, or it can be a completely separate PC (see “Client PC Requirements” for further information). It is highly recommended to use a separate PC as the client, as this prevents any user from unintentionally changing critical OS settings within the PDC-100.

As a general rule, it is best to locate power amplifiers and associated transformers at the bottom of the rack, and the network switch at the top. Use 1U solid blank panels to separate power amplifiers from each other and other equipment for ventilation purposes. Ethernet Switch BSS PDC-100 BSS PDP-BOB BSS PDP-DSP...

    • Firewall: disabled • Processor: 1.6 GHz or faster • Memory: 2 GB RAM or more • Screen Resolution: 1280x1024 or higher Connecting the PDC-100 and Client PC Within an IDX 100 System 1. Connect the ‘Ethernet’ port on the PDC-100 to a port on the Ethernet switch. » If a separate PC is being used as the client PC (recommended), there is no need to connect a keyboard, mouse, or video monitor to the PDC-100. » The PDC-100 contains an internal DHCP server. Care must be taken to ensure this DHCP server is the only DHCP server on the network. If another DHCP server is present on the IDX 100 network, this will cause conflicts which prevent the IDX 100 system from functioning. Therefore, install the IDX 100 system on an isolated network. INSTALLING THE IDX 100 SYSTEM ON A LARGER NETWORK IS DONE AT THE INSTALLER’S OWN RISK.
  • Page 5 Obtaining a Software License Once IDX100 Designer has been installed onto a client PC, a user can immediately begin using IDX100 Designer to design a system–even if the client PC is not connected to IDX 100 hardware. However, before loading a design to the IDX 100 hardware, a license must be acquired to activate the PDC-100’s server software. This is a one-time requirement. The recommended method of obtaining a license involves temporarily connecting the PDC-100 to the Internet, while also retaining a connection to the local IDX 100 network. This requires the client PC to have at least two NICs. Connect one NIC on the client PC to the IDX 100 Ethernet switch. Connect...
  • Page 6 Connecting the PDC-100 to the PDP-DSP The PDC-100’s stereo audio output must be connected to analog Inputs B3 and B4 on the PDP-DSP. These specific inputs are reserved for receiving the pre-recorded message audio stored on the hard drive of the PDC- 100. A stereo unbalanced cable carrying the PDC-100’s audio should be connected to inputs B3 and B4 on the PDP-DSP as follows: Figure 3 Figure 4 NOTE: For detailed information pertaining to the various connections on the PDC-100, please consult the document provided by Dell, “Dell Precision R5500 Setup And Features Information.”...
