If the System Passes the POST (Power-On Self Test)
but Will Not Function
If an error message displays on the screen, read the error message text for actions
to take. If the actions do not solve your problem, contact your reseller.
If there is no error message, follow these steps:
1. Turn off the server and remove all external peripherals, except the
monitor and keyboard. Boot from an internal hard drive and see if the
server now works.
2. If the server still doesn't work, turn off the monitor, the server, and all
external devices, and check the internal hardware, as follows:
a. Unplug the power cord and all telephone cables.
b. Pull out the satellite chassis and remove the satellite's top cover. Check
that all accessory boards are firmly seated in their slots.
c. Remove the lower fan pack and rear access panel. Then verify that the
DIMMs are firmly seated on the memory board(s). Verify that added
DIMMs are HP DIMMs (see the Product Reference Label on the
satellite's top cover for order numbers).
d. Remove the HP NetServer's front bezel and control panel. Ensure that
all disk drive power and data cables are securely and properly
connected, both at the rear of each drive and at the Peripheral
Interconnect Card behind the control panel. Verify the mass storage
configuration with the cabling and switch diagrams on the Service
Reference Label under the top cover or in Information Assistant.
e. Replace the HP NetServer cover Remount the rear access panel and
rear fans. Replace the control panel and front bezel.
f. Push the satellite chassis back into the base chassis. Make sure to lock
the power interlock switch at the rear of the base chassis. (Turn it
counter-clockwise.)
g. Replace all power cords and power cables.
h. Turn on the monitor.
i. Turn on the server at the control panel.
j. Check for error messages.
3. Run the HP NetServer Diagnostic Assistant Disk located on a flexible disk
mounted inside your HP NetServer in a plastic pouch.
