Chapter 3

Detaching and Reattaching the Satellite Chassis

You will sometimes need to detach the satellite chassis from the base chassis
completely. You would do this because:
You need to move the HP NetServer or mount it in a rack. The HP
NetServer LXr Pro8 is very heavy. For safety, detach the satellite from the
base and carry each component separately.
You need to work on the satellite chassis, but the HP NetServer is
mounted too high or too low in the rack for easy access. Even with the
satellite chassis extended, certain parts of it might not be accessible in the
rack. For safety and easy access, detach the satellite and carry it to a work
area.
You need to replace the entire satellite chassis.
CAUTION
Do not attempt to detach or reattach the satellite chassis by
yourself. The task requires two people. Failure to observe this
warning could result in serious injury or damage to the HP
NetServer.
To detach and reattach the satellite chassis:
1. Shut down all applications and networking software and power down the
HP NetServer.
2. If the HP NetServer is mounted in a rack, disconnect any cables that lead
from the satellite chassis to other rack components.
3. Remove the retention bracket. See Figure 3-2.
4. Pull out the satellite until its slides lock in the fully-extended position.
See the preceding section for details.
5. Position a person on either side of the satellite chassis.
6. With both people supporting the satellite chassis from below, press the
release latch on each of the slides. Figure 3-4 illustrates the release
latches.
