Chapter 4
6. Slide the drive all the way back into the bay. The flanges at the top and
bottom of the drive tray should be flat against the server's chassis. The
mounting holes in each flange should line up with matching holes in the
chassis.
7. Fasten each flange against the chassis with screws.
8. If installing a second drive, repeat steps 2 through 6.
9. When finished, reattach the front bezel.

Installing Hard Drives in all Three Bays

The HP NetServer has bays for one CD-ROM drive and three hard disk drives. If
you install drives in all three bays, or add a third drive to two that you already
installed, you must modify the procedure described in the previous section.
All three hard drives (and the CD-ROM) connect to a single SCSI data cable. If
two drives are already installed, they push the cable to the rear of the drive bays.
This reduces the amount of slack in the cable, so that it cannot reach the third
drive.
To avoid this problem, follow this procedure when installing three hard drives in
the HP NetServer:
1. Configure the drives and install them in their trays, as described earlier in
this chapter.
2. Install the first drive in the left-most bay, next to the CD-ROM drive.
Connect the SCSI data cable and a power cable to the rear of the drive.
Push the drive all the way into its bay.
3. Install the next drive in the middle bay. Connect all the cables, but do not
push the drive all the way into its bay. Leave the drive only about half-
inserted. See Figure 4-2.
4. Install the third drive in the last bay. Holding the drive in front of the bay
(Figure 4-2), reach in and pull out the SCSI data cable. Connect it to the
back of the drive. Then connect the power cable to the back of the drive.
