Solving Display Problems (continued)
Blank screen (no video).
Cause
Computer is in standby mode.
Monitor cable is plugged into the wrong connector.
Monitor settings in the computer are not compatible with the
monitor.
Blank screen and the power LED flashes Red five times, once every second, followed by a two second pause, and the
computer beeps five times. (Beeps stop after fifth iteration but LEDs continue flashing.)

Pre-video memory error.

Solution
Press the power button to resume from standby mode.
CAUTION:
When attempting to resume from standby mode,
do not hold down the power button for more than four seconds.
Otherwise, the computer will shut down and you will lose any
unsaved data.
Ensure that the monitor is plugged into an active connector on
the rear of the computer. If another connector is available,
connect the monitor to that connector and reboot the system.

Restart the computer and press
you see "Press F8" in the bottom right corner of the
screen.

Using the keyboard

Mode and press Enter.

In Windows Control Panel, double-click the Display icon
and select the Settings tab.

Use the sliding control to reset the resolution.
Solution

Reseat DIMMs. Power on the system.
2.
Replace DIMMs one at a time to isolate the faulty module.

Replace third-party memory with HP memory.
4.
Replace the system board.

For systems with a graphics card:

Reseat the graphics card. Power on the system.

Replace the graphics card.
3.
Replace the system board.
For systems with integrated graphics, replace the system
board.
