Information About OIR

OIR is a process of Cisco IOS XR software that lets you prepare the router for the removal and
replacement of a faulty switch fabric card on a fully operational router without loss of IP traffic,
interruption in forwarding, or degradation of system operation.
For more information about switch fabric cards, refer to the
Performing an OIR
Perform this task to remove and replace a switch fabric card from a running router during a software or
hardware upgrade or as a result of card failure.
This is not a global configuration setting; accordingly, you must perform the OIR procedure for each
switch fabric card you remove and replace.
When you perform the OIR, be sure to monitor the "Down Flags" as noted in the Purpose column. Down
flags reflect the internal status of the fabric plane. There are three down flag states, as follows:
This procedure does not apply when starting the router for the first time or after a power cycle or reload.
