2.2 Head Gap Adjustment
Proper head gap adjustment ensures the print quality meets the specified
standards. This chapter describes how to do the adjustment, which is referential
for maintenance and parts replacement.
The 'head gap' is the distance from the tip of the needles to the Print Bar.
Ex-factory value with the Gap Lever set at 1 position is between 0.40~0.44 mm.
This mechanical adjustment requires thickness gauges instead of changing the
positions of the Gap Lever. This adjustment sets the datum/standard level. A
deviation from the datum affects the print quality, ribbon jam and lost steps in the
carriage motor.
2.2.1 The value of Head Gap
The 'head gap' is the distance from the tip of the needles to the Print Bar. Ex-factory value
with the Gap Lever set at 1 position is between 0.40~0.44 mm.
1) When the value is too high, the print out is not clear and ribbon jam occurs.
2) When the value is too low, ribbon or paper jam occurs and sometimes it is not
possible to install the paper.
