Special conditions

1. The flowmeter must be integrated into the potential equalisation system.
Potential must be equalized along the intrinsically safe sensor circuits.
If the shield of the bus cable is grounded at multiple points, provide potential
equalisation as illustrated in Figure 7 on Page 17.
2. Devices connected to terminals Nos. 20 to 27 of the Promass 83 FOUNDATION Fieldbus
transmitter must be rated for U
(Does not apply to Promass 83***-***********G with intrinsically safe output circuits).
3. The specified temperature class in conjunction with the ambient temperature and the medium
temperature must be in compliance with the tables on Page 4.
4. The following rules apply for connecting the electronics housing of the EEx d rated version:
Use only specially approved cables and cable entries (EEx d IIC), suitable for operating tem-
peratures up to 80 °C. If conduit entries are used, the seals must be positioned immediately
adjacent to the housing.
5. The following rules apply for connecting the electronics housing of the EEx e rated version:
Use only specially approved cables and cable entries (EEx e), suitable for operating temper-
atures up to 80 °C and having an IP 67 protection rating.
6. Use of the devices is restricted to mediums against which the process-wetted materials are
adequately resistant.
7. It is not permissible to connect the service adapter in explosive atmospheres.
Note:
8. If the category "ia" intrinsically safe circuits of the flowmeters are connected to certified intrin-
sically safe category "ib" circuits with explosion group IIC resp. IIB ratings, the ignition protec-
tion rating changes to EEx ib IIC resp. EEx ib IIB, as applicable. Intrinsically safe category "ib"
circuits are suitable for use in environments that require category 2 equipment.
Zone 0:
Note:
In the zone 0 potentially explosive vapour/air mixtures may arise under atmospheric conditions
only. If no potentially explosive mixtures are present, or if additional protective measures have
been taken, e.g. EN 1127-1, the transmitters may be operated under other than atmospheric
conditions in accordance to the manufacturer's specifications.

General warnings

Warning:
x Installation, connection to the electricity supply, commissioning and maintenance of the devices
must be carried out by qualified specialists trained to work on Ex-rated devices.
x Compliance with national regulations relating to the installation of devices in potentially explo-
sive atmospheres is mandatory, if such regulations exist.
x Open the device only when it is de-energized (and after a delay of at least 10 minutes following
shutdown of the power supply).
x The housing of the Ex-rated transmitter can be turned in 90° steps. Whereas the non-Ex version
has a bayonet adapter, however, the Ex version has a thread. Recesses for centering the worm
screw are provided to prevent inadvertent movement of the transmitter housing.
It is permissible to turn the transmitter housing through a maximum of 180° during operation (in
either direction), without compromising explosion protection.
After turning the housing the worm screw must be fastened again.
x The screw cap has to be removed before the local display can be turned, and this must be done
with the device de-energized (and after a delay of at least 10 minutes following shutdown of the
power supply).
d 260 V and I
d 500 mA.
