4.2.2. Motor Cortex Sensitivity
The aim of this step is to find the lowest stimulator
output level which elicits a thumb twitch when
stimulating C3.
• Make sure the patient is comfortable and can
sit still while you complete each section. Ask
the patient to sit with arms resting on the chair
arm rests with their hands relaxed and palms
up.
• On the touch screen, select 'Single Pulse'
(from the options menu).
• Remove the D70 MT Coil from the holder on
the side of the mainframe.
• Press the 'Run' button
• Select the stimulator output window and
adjust to 50% using the control dial
• Place the centre of the coil on the patients
head at C3, at a 45° angle to the mid-line of the
head

4.5).
• The coil angle needs to be tangential to the
curvature of the head
• Deliver a stimulation pulse
definite twitch from the patient's thumb
• Refer to the flowchart overleaf
the stimulator output.
• Wait at least 2 seconds between each pulse and ask the patient to briefly
clench and relax their hand.
• Note down the resulting stimulator output level (AA%).
