can be used with the vehicle on a
level surface during tight parking
manoeuvres using the brake pedal
only.

WARMING UP THE
ENGINE JUST AFTER IT
HAS STARTED
Proceed as follows:
drive off slowly, letting the engine
turn at medium revs. Do not accelerate
abruptly;
do not demand full performance
at first. Wait until the engine coolant
temperature gauge starts moving.
44) 45)
ENGINE STARTING
FAILURE
Starting the engine with electronic
key battery (Keyless Enter-N-Go)
run down or flat
If the ignition device does not respond
when the relevant button is pressed
the electronic key battery might be run
down or flat. Therefore, the system
does not detect the presence of the
electronic key on board the vehicle and
displays a dedicated message.
In this case, rest the rounded edge of
the electronic key (the side opposite
to the key holder hole) on the ignition
device and press the button using the
electronic key (fig. 216). The ignition
device is thus activated and the engine
can be started.

SWITCHING OFF THE
ENGINE
Turn the ignition device to STOP with
the engine idling.
IMPORTANT
145) It is dangerous to run the engine in
enclosed areas. The engine consumes
oxygen and engine exhaust contains
carbon dioxide, carbon monoxide and
other toxic gasses.
WARNING
39) A quick burst on the accelerator before
stopping the engine serves no practical
purpose; it wastes fuel and is especially
damaging to turbocharged engines.
40) It is advisable not to demand
maximum performance from your
vehicle (e.g. excessive acceleration, long
distances at high speeds, excessive
intense braking, etc.) during the initial
period of use.
41) When the engine is switched off
never leave the ignition device in the
MAR position to prevent useless current
absorption from draining the battery.
42) In some cases, when the engine
switches off, the fan could activate for
max. 120 seconds.
43) If the engine fails to start with a gear
engaged, the potentially dangerous
F1A9053
situation due to the fact that the
transmission is automatically placed in
neutral will be signalled by a buzzer.
44) Remember that the brake servo and
power steering are not operational until the
engine has been started, so you need to
apply much more force than usual to the
brake pedal and steering wheel.
45) Never bump start the engine by
pushing, towing or coasting downhill. This
could cause fuel to flow into the catalytic
converter and damage it beyond repair.
