Serial port headers

The two serial port headers are standard, 2 mm spacing, male connectors. One
has 10-pins, while the other has 14-pins. To access these connectors from outside
the chassis, use the custom adapter cable included with the Matrox Supersight
SHB-Q170 cable kit.

The RS-232 serial ports are capable of sending and receiving information to and
from local devices; the driver and the receiver of which are always enabled. Each
port is controlled by a universal asynchronous receiver-transmitter (UART)
device, which converts serial data into parallel data when receiving information.
Conversely, when transmitting information, the UART converts parallel data to
serial data. The Matrox Supersight SHB-Q170 integrates
16550/16450-compatible UARTs, which feature independently programmable
baud rates and internal FIFO memory buffers.
The serial ports conform to the RS-232 interface standard. In addition, the
COM-2 port also supports RS-422 and RS-485 interface standards. Each port
supports a single device (point-to-point connection), and data communication is
single-ended
