Types of POST messages

After POST gains access to the display controller, it displays various messages
on-screen. Some messages display information about a hardware device (for
example, the amount of memory installed). Other messages might indicate a
problem with a device, such as the way it has been configured. These messages are
called error messages.
If an error message is displayed, you will have the option of either continuing with
the boot process, or entering the BIOS Setup utility to re-configure the BIOS
settings.
The following table includes a list and an explanation of the various messages that
the BIOS can display.
Explanation
The BIOS is unable to properly control the Matrox Supersight SHB-Q170 board's Gate A20
function, which controls access to memory over 1 Mbyte. This might indicate a problem with
the SHB.
This message will only occur on Matrox Supersight SHB-Q170 boards using ECC-enabled
memory modules. ECC memory has the ability to correct single-bit errors that can occur
from faulty memory modules. If a multiple-bit corruption of memory occurs, the
ECC memory algorithm cannot correct it. This might indicate a defective memory module.
This message indicated that there has been a fatal memory parity error. After displaying this
message, the board stops responding. This might indicate a defective memory module.
This is a generic message indicating that the BIOS could not boot from a particular device.
This message is usually followed by other information concerning the device.
The BIOS was unable to access the drive because it indicated it was not ready for data
transfer.
The BIOS could not find a bootable device in the unit, and/or the removable media drive does
not contain media.
This message occurs on some Matrox Supersight SHB-Q170 boards when no bootable
device can be detected.
