Trouble Shooting the Floor Feeding System

ALWAYS DISCONNECT POWER TO THE SYSTEM WHEN SERVICING OR MAINTAINING THE
EQUIPMENT. FAILURE TO DISCONNECT POWER MAY CAUSE INJURY OR DEATH.
Service and maintenance work should be done by a qualified technician only.
Problem
None of the feeder lines will operate
Feeder line will not operate
Motor overloads frequently
Auger runs erratically
Auger tube or boot wears out rapidly
(Noisy feeder operation)
Oil leaking out of seals on power unit
Not enough feed supplied to the feeder
pans
Brood openings will not stay in sync
Actuator will not move cones
One pan will not operate
Control pan does not function
Pan will not stay in adjustment
Pivots Break

Possible Cause
No power supplied to equipment
Time Clock or relay defective
Time Clock improperly programmed
Power unit cord not plugged in
sufficiently to make contact
Motor cord wires are broken at plug
or where cord enters motor
Power Units thermal overload
tripped
Control unit switch defective or out
of adjustment
Oil on new auger loads motor
excessively when feed is carried for
first time
Inadequate power reaching motors
Object caught in the auger; motor
runs, stalls, then auger spins in
reverse
Frozen or cracked bearing at boot
anchor
Insufficient stretch in auger
Obstruction in the auger
Auger is bent or kinked
End of auger is riding up on anchor
weldment
Gearhead vent plug not installed
Defective gear head seal
Insufficient time programmed on the
time clock
Feeder line control unit switch out of
adjustment
Loose plastic cable clamp
Cable loose
Loose or missing Pivot bracket
Check operation of switch,
check time delay
check time delay selector
To much pressure or movement in
one direction
To much pressure on cable
Trouble Shooting the Floor Feeding System
Corrective Action
Replace burned fuses or reset circuit breaker
Make sure voltage required is supplied
Replace Time Clock or relay
Refer to Programming the Time Clock
section and reprogram the Time Clock
Check motor cord plug at control unit and
control unit plug at outlet for connection
Check cord for continuity
Replace if defective
Push motor overload reset button to reset
Adjust switch according to the Switch
Adjustment Procedure in the maintenance
section
Polish auger by running 50 lb (20 kg)
increments of feed out to pans
Check line voltage at the motors
Check starting current draw at motors
Wiring of adequate size is essential to feeder
operation
Check hopper boot, control unit and pan
outlet holes for foreign objects
Remove obstruction
Replace bearing
Slowly ease auger back into tube
Be careful not to damage the bearing when
reinserting the auger
Shorten the auger
Remove obstruction
Repair or replace damaged auger
Auger must not be positioned over weld on
anchor
Check for bent or damaged auger
Replace plastic shipping plug with vent plug
Replace seal
Add more operating time to feeding period
Adjust switch according to the Switch
Adjustment Procedure in the maintenance
section
Tighten the plastic cable clamps
Tighten cable
Tighten loose parts
clean off any buildup
make sure time delay is working
select position 0 for control
Reset Brood opening, refer to Setting the
Actuator.
