    15 tape slots in each segment, for a total of 60 slots. In a Spectra 12000 library, these magazines are installed on the opposite side of the robotic rack assembly from where the current magazines are installed.

    Remove the Rail-Mounted Robotic Rack Assembly 1. Remove the four (captive or flush-mount) screws that hold the robotic rack assembly in the chassis (Figure 6).     Remove the Carbon-Top Robotic Rack Assembly 1. Remove the five flush screws that hold the robotic rack assembly in the chassis (Figure 9). Figure 9 Location of the five screws in the chassis. 2. Carefully slide the robotic rack assembly outward (Figure 10). Warning: The robotic rack assembly has no locks to secure it to the library.

    Install the Magazines 1. Remove the magazines from their packages. 2. Look closely at the magazines, and note the numbers embossed on the back of each slot. Number 1 indicates the top of the magazine. 3. At the top of each magazine, on the outside, there is a colored label which indicates the position it will take within the library.
  • Page 16 Install the Magazines 4. Line up the new magazines on a table in the order to be installed (Figure 12). Organize the magazines as follows: On the far left, place the magazine with the blue label on top. - This magazine has a long clip on the middle of both the right and left sides. On the far right, place the magazine with the red label on top.

Insert one of the yellow-labeled magazines into the yellow-coded niche next to the red-coded niche—the niche next to the rear segment you just installed (Figure 14). The tabs on the magazines should overlap and fit together. Note: Make sure the tape slot marked with the number 1 is at the top of the magazine before placing each magazine into the library.

Caution: Make sure none of the magazines is positioned at an angle. The magazines need to remain flat against the inside of the library or they will interfere with operations and could cause damage to the library and your data tapes.

    2. Align the robotic rack assembly with the rails. 3. Squeeze the rails together to hold the robotic rack assembly in place. 4. Pushing the assembly in to the Spectra 12000 library, pick up the front edge of the assembly so it clears the bottom of the chassis.

Note: If the drive slot assembly has no screws attaching it to the picker assembly, then it is a stationary door, and you will not need to move the door or the drives to perform the slot segment upgrade.

    Remove the Rail-Mounted Robotic Rack Assembly 1. Carefully slide the robotic rack assembly out of the library by gently pulling it toward you from the front (Figure 31). Caution: Support the Transport Tray and move it to the bottom of the rack assembly.

The tabs on the magazines should overlap and fit together. Note: Make sure that the tape slot marked with the number 1 is at the top of the magazine before placing each magazine into the library.

    Replace the Rail-Mounted Robotic Rack Assembly 1. Stepping to the side, carefully lift the robotic rack assembly upward and place it into the library (Figure 40). 2. Seat the robotic rack assembly in the rails and ensure that the spring-loaded metal latches engage.
