About This Manual This manual describes the procedure for replacing the liquid crystal display (LCD) and the touch screen in Spectra 12000 or Spectra 64000 automated tape libraries. Caution: The LCD is a static sensitive device. Please use a static dissipative wrist strap or other ESD equipment and/or tools for this process.

This procedure should take about 30 minutes. Materials and Tools Required You will need an LCD Replacement Kit, P.N. 90919022, or Touch Screen Replacement Kit, P.N. 90919049, from Spectra Logic or an authorized reseller. You will also need: • The library door key •...
4. If necessary, move the library to a location where you have full access to the front of the library. Warning: The library is heavy. • The Spectra 12000 library weighs approximately 275 lbs. (125 kg). • The Spectra 64000 library weighs approximately 881 lbs. (400kg).
Remove the LCD Assembly 1. Use the library door key to open the door. 2. Use the #2 Phillips screwdriver to remove the two screws holding the top door filter to the door (Figure 2). Figure 2 Remove screws attaching the top door filter to the door.

4. Remove the eight screws holding the door access panel to the door (Figure 3). Make sure to hold the door access panel when removing the last screw, because it can drop off. Figure 3 Remove screws attaching the access panel to the door.

7. While supporting the LCD with one hand, remove the last screw (Figure 6, Figure 7). Caution: The touch screen is located directly behind the LCD, and it is connected only by an electrical ribbon. Make sure that when you remove the LCD that you also remove the touch screen simultaneously, or damage may occur.
Remove the Touch Screen 1. Carefully place the LCD and touch screen face down on a clean surface (Figure 8). Figure 8 The LCD and touch screen face down. 2. Remove the touch screen’s electrical ribbon from the LCD by sliding the plastic connector forward and carefully pulling out the ribbon (Figure 9).

Replace the LCD 1. Remove the new LCD from its packaging, make sure that the LCD is free of debris. 2. Place the LCD, screen side up, on a clean flat surface. Use the touch screen you just removed and place it flush on the new LCD and make sure it is perfectly square (Figure 10).

3. With two hands gently turn the LCD and touch screen over so that the touch screen is face down (Figure 11). Figure 11 The LCD and touch screen face down. 4. Attach the touch screen’s electrical ribbon to the LCD by carefully inserting the ribbon into the plastic connector labeled CONN 2.
Replace the Touch Screen 1. Remove the new touch screen from its packaging. 2. Remove the center felt pieces to expose the glass touch screen. 3. Place the LCD you just removed from the library, screen side up, on a clean flat surface.

Replace the LCD Assembly 1. While holding both the LCD and touch screen together with both hands, carefully fit the LCD assembly into the bezel, making sure that the touch screen fits properly into the bezel. 2. Once the LCD assembly is in place, use one hand to hold it and install the four countersunk screws (Figure 16, Figure 17).
