Chapter 6. Removing and replacing components

Use this information to remove and replace the server components.
The types of replaceable components are:
• Structural parts: Purchase and replacement of structural parts (components, such as chassis assembly,
cover, and bezel) is your responsibility. If Lenovo acquires or installs a structural component at your
request, you will be charged for the service.
• Tier 1 customer replaceable unit (CRU): Replacement of Tier 1 CRUs is your responsibility. If Lenovo
installs a Tier 1 CRU at your request, you will be charged for the installation.
• Tier 2 customer replaceable unit (CRU): You may install a Tier 2 CRU yourself or request Lenovo to
install it, at no additional charge, under the type of warranty service that is designated for your server.

Removing the side cover
Use this information to remove the side cover.
Attention: Operating the server for more than 30 minutes with the side cover removed might damage server
components. For proper cooling and airflow, install the side cover before you turn on the server.
For 4U server models with non-hot-swap power supplies, complete the following steps to remove the side
cover. For the 5U server model with hot-swap power supplies, please see the next sub-section.
