4.8 Eye Safety

WARNING
INVISIBLE LASER RADIATION
AVOID EXPOSURE TO BEAM
CLASS 3B LASER PRODUCT
Wavelength: 830 nm
Beam divergence: 0.45 mrad
Maximum Power: 180 mW
NOHD (Nominal Ocular Hazard Distance): 850 m (10 s)
NSHD (Nominal Skin Hazard Distance): 55 m (10 s)
In case of a broken fiber:
Nominal Ocular Hazard distance: 4.5 m (10 s)
Skin Hazard distance: 0.3 m (10 s)
The LRF 7047 (A/N: 913906) is a Class 3B laser product according to EN 60825.
The pointer is not eye safe and is not visible for the unaided human eye (λ = 830 nm).
The LRF range capabilities at 1550 nm are eye safe.
Protective measures such as wearing appropriate laser safety glasses for 790 to 850 nm have
to be taken to avoid direct exposure to the pointer laser beam. Integration personnel must be
trained, how to handle non-eye safe lasers. Implementation of laser safety measures is the
system integrator's responsibility.
The LRF 7047 provides a hardware interlock function to ensure that the pointer is not switched-
on unintentionally. To emit a non-eye safe laser beam, the LRF 7047 has to be powered
correctly, woken-up, the interlock pins need to be short-circuited and the pointer software
command has to be sent via the serial interface.
Safran Vectronix can provide a filter to reduce pointer intensity for testing purpose in laboratory
conditions (see chapter 4.8.1).
