Table 26 Replacing a storage enclosure chassis and installing its CRUs
To accomplish this sequential process
1.
Facing the front of the 2U enclosure, remove the
disk modules from the damaged chassis and place
them in a static-protected work area nearby.
2. Facing the rear of the 2U enclosure, remove the
power and data cables.
3. Remove the damaged storage enclosure chassis
from the rack.
4. Remove the two power and cooling modules
(PCMs) from the damaged chassis rear panel, and
install them in the replacement chassis.
5. Remove the two IOMs from the damaged chassis
rear panel, and install them in the replacement
2
chassis.
6. Install the replacement storage enclosure in the
rack.
7.
Facing the front of the 2U enclosure, install disk
drive modules into the replacement enclosure.
8. Complete the installation process.
1-If you temporarily stack the disks before installing them, insert static dissipative foam between the drive modules.
2-Within the replacement enclosure, each IOM must be reinstalled into the same IOM slot from which it was extracted from the damaged enclosure (0A
> 0A and 0B > 0B, respectively). For FC/iSCSI IOMs, the SFPs installed in the CNC ports need not be removed. For SFP replacement, see
for CNC ports" (page
3-Within the replacement enclosure, reinstall each disk drive or disk drive blank into the same disk slot from which it was removed from the damaged
enclosure. To ensure optimal cooling throughout the enclosure, dummy drive carriers must be fitted to all unused drive slots.

Removing a damaged storage enclosure chassis from the rack

This section provides a procedure for removing a damaged storage enclosure chassis from its rack location.
CAUTION: It is recommended that all disk drive modules be removed before removing the enclosure. Two people are
required to move the 2U enclosure.
1. Disconnect the power cables and data cables between devices as needed:
a. Between the cascaded enclosures.
b. Between the controller and peripheral SAN devices.
c. Between the controller and the host.
NOTE: Label the cables to facilitate reconnection of the storage devices.
2. Remove the retaining screws that secure the front and rear of the chassis to the rack and rails.
