5. Slide the cylinder gland, 1, and new piston with
seals installed, 2, onto the piston rod, 3. Make
sure the recess in the piston is positioned over
the end of the rod.
NOTE: Wear ring and seals at 4, if installed
separately, should be clamped with a ring
compressor and chilled prior to being installed in the
barrel.
6. Use a hydraulic sealant to seal between the pis-
ton and the rod. Install the piston retaining stud
and washer at 5, and seal threads with medium-
strength 242 Loctite
. Torque to 258 N·m (190 ft.
lbs.).
7. Liberally oil the piston and place it inside the bar-
rel, being careful not to damage the seals.
8. Apply Loctite
569 sealant to the gland threads
at 1, and thread the gland into the barrel. Before
tightening the gland, coat the area between the
seal and the flange at 2, with grease.
9. Torque
the
cylinder
(170 ft. lbs.).
REINSTALLATION
1. Lubricate the pivot pins with a never seize type
lubricant.
2. Install the cylinder on the loader.
3. Torque the upper pivot pin hardware at 1, to 108
N·m (80 ft. lbs.).
4. With a hammer and using a piece of 2 x 4 hard-
wood to protect the pin, hit the pivot pin and re-
taining hardware at 1, to properly seat the ta-
pered pin and retorque to 108 N·m (80 ft. lbs.).
5. Torque the lower pivot pin hardware at 2, to 38
N·m (28 ft. lbs.).
6. Cycle the boom several times to remove the air
from the system and check the cylinder for leaks.
7. Check the hydraulic oil level and add 10W-30 oil
as required.
