Using Nextel Direct Connect™
Note: Your handheld has built-in shortcuts that you can use when you place calls. Refer
to "Using shortcuts when you place calls" on page 126 for more information.
Icons appear on the Active Call and Messages screens to provide additional information
about the Phone application. Refer to "Phone icons" on page 120 for more information.
You can also place a Nextel Direct Connect Private Call from the other handheld
applications. Select a contact for whom you have saved a Nextel Direct Connect
Number. Press the
If you are placing a Nextel Direct Connect Private Call to a contact with a different Area
ID and Network ID as you, on the Phone screen, (Fleet) appears after the contact's
name. If you are placing a Nextel Direct Connect Private Call to a contact with the same
Area ID and Network ID as you, on the Phone screen, (Private) appears after the
contact's name.
To place a Nextel Direct Connect Call Alert from the Phone
screen
1. On the Home screen, click the Phone icon. The Phone screen appears and
displays the last 20 contacts that you called.
2. Select a contact for whom you have saved a Nextel Direct Connect Number.
Click the trackwheel to view the menu. Click Alert. The Ready To Alert
dialog box appears and displays the Address Book information that you have
saved for your contact.
3. Press the PTT button. The Alert Sent dialog box appears. The Alert Successful
dialog box appears after your contact receives notification of the alert.
If your contact responds to the Call Alert, the Active Call screen displays
Private Call In Use, the Address Book information that you have saved for
your contact, and your handheld's Nextel Direct Connect Number.
4. Press and hold the PTT button to speak to your contact. Release the PTT
button to listen to your contact.
