To place a Nextel Direct Connect Private Call from the Phone
screen
1. On the Home screen, click the Phone icon. The Phone screen appears and
displays the last 20 contacts that you called.
2. Select a contact for whom you have saved a Nextel Direct Connect Number.
Press the PTT button.
The Active Call screen displays Private Call In Use, the contact's Address
Book information, and your handheld's Nextel Direct Connect Number.
3. Press and hold the PTT button to speak to your contact. Release the PTT
button to listen to your contact.
Note: While you are on a call, you can still use the other handheld applications. You are
not, however, able to send or receive email or PIN messages or browse web pages. You
can receive SMS messages.
To use the other handheld applications while you are on a call, on the Active Call screen,
click the trackwheel to view the menu. Click Hide Call. You return to the last application
that you were using. To return to the Phone application again, on the Home screen, click
the Phone icon. You cannot press the Escape button to return to the last application
that you were using. Pressing the Escape button while the Active Call screen is
displayed ends the call.
A volume indicator appears on the right side of the screen. Roll the trackwheel to
increase or decrease the volume. Refer to "Setting the volume" on page 127 for

more information.

Tip: If the audio quality of your call decreases during the call, extend the antenna fully.
To end the call, click the trackwheel to view the menu. Click End Call. On the
Active Call screen, you can also hold the Escape button to end the call. You return
to the Home screen.
