Using Nextel Direct Connect™
To place a one-time Nextel Direct Connect Group Call
A Group Call enables you to communicate with a group of people that have been
set up by Nextel as a talkgroup. Each talkgroup is assigned a number and you use
this number to place Group Calls.
After you join a talkgroup, your handheld monitors the activity of the talkgroup.
When a talkgroup member places a Group Call, you receive visual notification or
other notification, depending on how you have configured your handheld's
notification profiles.
1. On the Home screen, click the Phone icon. The Phone screen appears.
2. Select One Time Dial and click the trackwheel. The Phone Number/DCID
dialog box appears.
3. Press #. Dial the number of the talkgroup.
4. Click Join. The Joining Talkgroup dialog box indicates that your handheld is
attempting to join the talkgroup. The Talkgroup Joined dialog box appears
after your handheld successfully joins the talkgroup.
Note: After you join a talkgroup, your handheld monitors the activity of the talkgroup. If
you want to place a Group Call to your talkgroup, proceed with steps 5 through 8.
5. On the Phone screen, select One Time Dial and click the trackwheel. The
Phone Number/DCID dialog box appears.
6. Press #. Dial the number of the talkgroup that you joined.
7. Press the PTT button. The handheld beeps to indicate that the call is placed.
8. Press and hold the PTT button to speak to your talkgroup. Release the PTT
button to listen to other contacts in the group.
Placing Nextel Direct Connect calls from the

Phone screen

You can use the PTT button to place Nextel Direct Connect Private Calls, Call
Alerts, and Group Calls from the Phone screen.
