AMTOR Operation

Speed Change Not Permitted

In accordance with FCC Part 97.69 and international regulations, AMTOR is operated at
one speed only – 100 bauds. The PK-232 does not permit AMTOR operation at any other
speed.
4.5.3

SELCAL (Selective Sequential Calling)

AMTOR operating modes require a SELCAL (Selective Sequential Calling) code. This
unique character sequence must contain four alphabetic characters normally derived from
your call sign.
The convention originated by the early European AMTOR pioneers, and later adopted by
amateurs around the world, was broadly based on the most common "one-by-three" call
signs, and used the first and the last three letters of the call sign. However, with the re-
cent changes and expansions of the call sign systems in many countries, some comment
and explanation may be in order here.
