3.1 Operating a motor vehicle
An upper limb amputee's ability to drive a motor vehicle is determined on
a case-by-case basis. Factors include the type of fitting (amputation level,
unilateral or bilateral, residual limb conditions, design of the prosthesis) and
the amputee's abilities. For maximum safety and convenience, Ottobock
recommends that, at the very least, a specialist evaluate the need for any
adaptations to the car (such as by installing a steering fork). The user
must be able to operate the vehicle without any risk with the electric hand
turned off. Driving with the electric hand turned ON may present a risk to
other persons if the hand inadvertently opens due to unintentional muscle
contraction or other causes.
Caution:
Before operating a motor vehicle, the Quick-Disconnect Unit and
flexion angle of the MyoWrist Transcarpal 10V38=* must be so
positioned that a slight turn of it, which can occur during streering,
cannot disconnect the hand from the prosthesis!

5 Description and function

The MyoWrist Transcarpal 10V38=* allows for the fitting of both, long and
short residual limbs, in combination with a Ottobock 8E44=* Transcarpal
Hand and in addition optionally with a 8R1 Endoskeletal-Adapter.
The Ottobock MyoWrist Transcarpal 10V38=* allows for flexion and exten-
sion settings in different positions.
The wrist unit is unlocked by pressing the black release knob (Fig. 2). The
integrated ratchet system holds the hand in the desired position until it is
locked and thus facilitates exact positioning. Flexion and extension take place
passively. Stop pressing the release knob and the joint will relock.
The wrist units are obtainable in the following sizes:
10V38=L7 1/4 10V38=R7 1/4
10V38=L7 3/4 10V38=R7 3/4
10V38=L8 1/4 10V38=R8 1/4
