FUNCTIONAL DESCRIPTION

Functional capabilities of the Model 4000C System are determined by the combination of basic
and optional components.

BASIC LEARN/TEST FUNCTION

In its basic configuration, composed of the Main Chassis and the Control Head, the Tester
memorizes point-to-point continuities by scanning a known-good circuit and storing the
continuities in its 128K dynamic memory. The Tester can then be used to scan a different
assembly and compare each scanned continuity against the corresponding learned continuities in
memory. If a mismatch is encountered, scanning stops and the FROM and TO points are
displayed, along with the nature of the error (Open or Short). With the pressing of the mode
switch on the Control Head, the test continues on past the error.

ASSEMBLY FUNCTION

When the Model 4000C is used as an assembly aid, the system employs the lamp driver to assist
the operator in the location of specified points on the assembly fixture. In the assembly modes,
body conductance is used in locating specified wires, or any random wire, and provides the
operator with the destination point for wire termination. Once the wire is terminated properly,
the Model 4000C will verify the continuity and help locate the next wire to be assembled.

PROGRAM STORAGE ON FLOPPY

When the Model 4000C is to be switched to test another assembly requiring the "learning" of a
different test program, the program in memory can be saved to a floppy diskette where it may be
preserved until needed. When the stored program is to be returned to memory for use in testing,
the new program in memory is saved to disk if it is to be preserved.

PRINTOUT

If the optional printer is added to the basic system error list and wire list printouts may be
initiated by switches on the Control Head.
