Model 4000C Instruction Manual
The Cablescan Model 4000C is a microprocessor-based continuity tester. It can be used as an
assembly aid, an in-process continuity tester, and a final interconnect verification instrument for
harnesses, backplanes, and cables. Besides being self-programming, the tester provides a variety
of programming methods and floppy-disk storage of programs. An optional printer generates
hardcopy test records, and an optional Keyboard/CRT provides control in user language. The
tester may also be controlled by a Personal Computer through an RS-232C Terminal port.
Basic and optional components of the Tester are as follows:

BASIC CONFIGURATION

Major features of the Model 4000C are as follows:
 Main Chassis expandable from 128 to 2048 test points
 Control Head
 Built-in 3.5 inch Floppy Disk

OPTIONAL COMPONENTS

 Scanner Boards (128 points each)
 Expansion Chassis (2176 to 4096 test points)
 Lamp Driver Chassis (128 or 254 lamp drivers)
 Printer
 CRT/Keyboard Terminal or Personal Computer
 Control and Programming Software

MAIN CHASSIS

The Main Chassis contains control circuits, memory for wire list programs, and scanner module
plug-in slots. Control circuits are microprocessor based. The test program memory is employed
for holding one complete 4096-point program at a time. Test capacity of the Main Chassis may
be from 128 to 2048 points, (128 points per each scanner board installed).

CONTROL HEAD

The Control Head contains mode selection switches, selection indicators, and alphanumeric
display. The switches, indicators, and display provide the means for operator control and
monitoring of Tester operations. The Model 4000C can be used without a Control Head for
applications using a dedicated PC for control and display.

FLOPPY DISK DRIVE

The built-in 3.5-inch floppy disk drive is located in the main chassis and is used to store test
programs when not in use. Several programs may be stored on each floppy diskette and may be
loaded using the Control Head switches. The Model 4000C may be purchased without the 3.5
inch drive for application using a dedicated Personal Computer for control and display.
