Making rhythm analysis – the ARTM program
9.3.
The arrhythmia program provides the following services
 After a short learning period (a few beats) the QRS complexes are classified based on
rhythm and speed. These groups are as follows:
Rhythmically narrow QRS (N)
Rhythmically wide QRS (B)
Rhythmically extra wide (W)
Premature beat narrow QRS (S)
Premature beat wide QRS (E)
Premature beat extra wide QRS (V)
Long beat (L)
The letters in bracket indicate the QRS type on the screen and during printing.
When recognizing a non-normal beat (non-rhythmic narrow QRS) the device starts
printing with 2s negative delay, so the recognized beat appears in the middle of the 4s
printout.
If another extra beat happens during printing (approximately 4s), it will not be printed,
but the beat parameters are stored and will be part of the statistics.
 The program stores the R-wave times and types, and from these data calculates different
data and creates statistics after the measurement. The measurement is 5 minutes, but can
be aborted anytime with the PROG button. If the program already detected at least 40
beats until stopping, evaluation is made; evaluation is not performed with less than 40
beats.
If at least 1-minute rhythm record is made with the STORE button, the device performs the
parameter and statistics calculations, and these data are stored with the rhythm record, and the
result can be printed as well.
The arrhythmia program examines the heart operation rhythmicality and QRS width, and
classifies the beats based on these. For rhythmicality examination the RR distance averages
are calculated with an appropriate algorithm and the current RR value is compared to this.
Classification based on rhythm:
Normal
Post-extra
Extra
Long
QRS width measurement is made on 3 channels, beginning and end of QRS are defined on all
three channels and QRS width is determined based on these data. The beats are classified
based on width according to the following:
Normal
Wide
Extra wide
32/61
